Wild Orchid is a 1990 film starring Mickey Rourke, Carre Otis, Jacqueline Bisset, Bruce Greenwood, and Assumpta Serna. Directed by Zalman King, from the screenplay by King and Patricia Louisiana Knopp, who are best known for writing Nine and a Half Weeks and producing the erotic TV Series Red Shoe Diaries. 105 minutes, rated R.
Otis plays Emily, a young woman who has travelled to New York City to interview with an international law firm. She is immediately hired and her first assignment is to fly to Rio de Janeiro with one of the company's top executives, Claudia (Bisset), to help with the purchase and development of a dilapidated beach hotel.
Additional Info.
- King's original cut was deemed far too graphic for an R-rating, and was threatened with an NC-17. He then went back to the editing room and removed a good portion of the more explicit footage (most of it comprised of the final sex scene between Rourke and Otis), and also added additional material that had originally been cut. The theatrical release ran at 105 minutes. For the film's video premiere King released his original version in an unrated format, which runs at 111 minutes. Both editions are available on video.
- The film was a critical flop.
- Rourke and Otis married in 1992 and divorced in 1998. They also starred together in the 1996 direct-to-video film Exit In Red.

Trivia
- Mickey Rourke and Carré Otis were a couple at the time this film was made, and there is a persistent rumor that the sex scenes were not faked.
- In a 2004 interview, Carré Otis denied the rumors that suggested the infamous last sex scene was real.
- The hotel construction site was actually the skeleton of an abandoned hotel in Salvador, Bahia that was never completed. It was imploded a few years later, after decades of abandonment.
